Our Story

Our journey with elderberry syrup began years before Blossom Creek became a business. In 2016, during a particularly difficult flu season, a family friend brought us a bottle of elderberry syrup. We were intrigued by elderberry, but the syrups we tried were much sweeter than we liked and weren't something our family particularly enjoyed taking. So we started making our own.

For Melissa, that interest in a more natural approach to wellness was also deeply personal. After 13 years as a Physician Assistant in family practice, her own health changed dramatically in 2014 when she developed a complex neurological illness that remains undiagnosed today. Eventually, her symptoms forced her to step away from the career she loved.

Years of navigating an uncertain diagnosis and ongoing health challenges changed the way Melissa looked at health and wellness. She became increasingly interested in nutrition, natural ingredients, and being an active advocate for her own health and the health of her family.

We continued making elderberry syrup for our own family and sharing it with friends. As more people tried it, they began asking for bottles of their own. What started in our kitchen gradually grew, and in 2020, Blossom Creek Elderberry Syrup officially became our small family business.

Six years later, Blossom Creek has grown in ways we never expected, but our family's journey hasn't followed a straight path. After several years of improving, Melissa experienced a significant neurological relapse in September 2025. Her health journey remains ongoing and unpredictable, and our family has continued to adapt—both at home and in the way we run Blossom Creek.

Through all of that change, the way we make our elderberry syrup really hasn't changed. We still make it in small batches here in Northeast Georgia using organic ingredients and raw local honey, with no additives or preservatives. What began in our own kitchen has grown into something we never expected. Over the years, Blossom Creek has become part of our local community through farmers markets, festivals, and local retailers, while also finding its way into homes across the country.

Blossom Creek has always been a family business. There are seasons when each of us has had to step in a little more, change roles, or simply figure things out as we go. That's part of our story too.

We're incredibly grateful for the customers who have supported our family over the past six years—especially those who have come back year after year, stopped by to see us at festivals, told their friends about us, or simply trusted us enough to bring a bottle of Blossom Creek home to their own family.

Thank you for being part of our story.
